Radon is a naturally occurring Chemically Inert (Cannot See or Smell) Gas. Radon comes from the natural (radioactive) decay of uranium 238 in soil, rock, and water, and from the immediate decay of radium 226. Conducting a radon home test is the only way to find out if you and your family are at risk.

The concern with Radon is when it enters the home. Radon can infiltrate any type of building - homes, offices, and schools - and build up to high levels. But you and your family will most likely receive your greatest exposure where you spend most of your time... your home.

Radon enters the home from up through the soil, through your foundation and into your home. It does not matter if your home is 100 years old or recently built. If it was not built with radon-resistant features, then it is susceptible. It is true that some regions of the country have higher concerns than others, however no state is exempt.

When Radon gas decays into radioactive particles they can get trapped in your lungs when you breathe. As they break down further, these particles release small bursts of energy. This can damage lung tissue and lead to lung cancer over the course of your lifetime. Not everyone exposed to elevated radon levels will develop lung cancer. And the amount of time between exposure and the onset of the disease may be many years.
